Carl Axel Morvay
Carl Axel is a partner in Cirio’s Banking & Finance and DCM group and has close to 20 years of experience advising on Swedish and cross-border transactions. His practice spans financing, debt capital markets and M&A, with a particular focus on infrastructure and complex cross-border transactions.
Within financing, Carl Axel has particular experience in project and infrastructure finance, real estate finance and leverage finance. A significant part of his practice is focused on the infrastructure and energy sectors, where he advises banks, investors, sponsors and corporates in connection with greenfield projects, investments, acquisitions and financings.
Within debt capital markets, Carl Axel regularly advises issuers and arrangers on Swedish and international high-yield and investment-grade transactions. He focuses on transactions where bonds are combined with other senior or subordinated financing solutions and debt instruments, often within shared security and intercreditor structures.
Within M&A, Carl Axel regularly advises on acquisitions, divestments, investments, buy-and-build transactions and public takeovers for both corporates and private equity sponsors. His combined experience in M&A and financing is particularly valuable in complex transactions where acquisition structure, financing and capital structure need to be considered as a whole.
Carl Axel also heads Cirio’s Shipping practice. He advises Swedish and international banks, shipowners and investors on, among other matters, M&A, ship finance, newbuild projects and other cross-border transactions within the sector.
Through his MBA from the Stockholm School of Economics, Carl Axel combines his legal expertise and experience from complex transactions with a broader strategic business perspective. This enables him to consider transactions in a wider context and provide advice that takes legal, financial and commercial considerations into account.
Clients and international ranking institutions particularly highlight Carl Axel’s commercial judgement, his ability to quickly identify the core issues and his pragmatic approach. He is described as engaged and highly responsive, with a clear focus on driving the process forward and getting the transaction done.
